Ben2

Heya, my name is Ben Avilez.

First things first: What am I about. Well, I’ll admit that I’m not the brightest LED in the ditty bag but I can confidently say that I have a passion for filmmaking and a heart for the people that work in the field. I love working alongside people who enjoy making films and I’ll work tenaciously to see a project from start to finish.

I first became interested in filmmaking during my junior year of high school. I bought a cheap little video camcorder and recorded tidbits of my everyday life and posted them online – this was before YouTube even existed. Although the content wasn’t outstanding, people still subscribed because online media such as this wasn’t very prevalent at the time. As a result, I was featured in The Independent (a magazine in the United Kingdom) as one of the top videobloggers in the world. One of my [ridiculous] videos also appeared on G4TV. Essentially, this joy of knowing that people are watching my work was what pushed me into the filmmaking realm.

Nowadays I’m just trying to be a well-rounded filmmaker. I’ve written and directed two action films during my tenure at San Diego State University in Diecast and Tribal Initiation. I’ve also DP’d on a pair of projects and done behind-the-scenes videography on numerous others. I’d consider editing to be my forté – ironically, I’ve never been the chief editor on any one project I’ve been a part of; I prefer to get my feet wet than jive with what’s familiar.

Bottom line, I take pride in what I do and it’s because of that that I truly enjoy what I do.
